Product Details

The Bafang mid-drive BBS02 750w motor mounts in place of your bike's bottom bracket and replaces your bike's crankset and front derailleur if you have one. The Bafang BBS02 kit comes with all necessary parts to convert just about any bike (must have 68-73mm bottom bracket) to an electric bike including the battery! This is the newest Bafang 750w BBS02 mid drive motor kit, including version B motor and upgraded 25 amp controller with 9 IRFB3077 MOSFETs. The BBS02 750 watt motor kit is a high-performing, lightweight, quiet, fast, hill-climbing, well-engineered electric bike kit. Superior to hub motors, the mid drive motor kit feels just like a normal bike when pedaling since it can completely freewheel. The motor includes pedal assist sensors (PAS), so you can choose the power level of motor assistance that you would like while pedaling. Also, you can always use the throttle in order to engage the motor if you want to take a break from pedaling! Please note, the throttle is limited to the Pedal Assist Level you are in.

Which Sprocket?

We offer the Bafang BBS02 kit with three sprocket options with different tooth sizes (44T, 48T and 52T).

44 tooth is the smallest option that will provide you with the most torque and it is the best option for hill-climbing ability.

48 tooth is a reliable middle of the ride option.

52 tooth is the largest option and will provide you with the highest top speed (~30mph) and it is recommended to be used mainly for street riding.

Which Battery?

The battery that you choose to pair with your kit depends on what kind of range and power you are looking for as well as the dimensions that you have to work with on your bike.

Please consult the different battery product pages for detailed information regarding the batteries:

Choose a 52V Battery to Turbocharge your Bafang Kit

52V Battery packs are designed to turbocharge your 48V Bafang BBS02/BBSHD ebike kits by maxing out the possible amount of voltage that the 48V Bafang controllers can handle to get the most possible power out of your 48V ebike system. 52V batteries give your 48V Bafang systems more power and longer range. T
he 52V pack gives you an extra 200 watts more than a 48V pack. The added voltage also provides you higher top end speed, more power and a longer distance range compared to a 48V ebike battery pack with the same amp hour rating. A 52V battery will give you ~8% longer range than a 48V battery with same amp hour rating. All our Bafang motor kits (BBS02/BBSHD) are compatible with 52V batteries as our upgraded, robust controllers are made to handle a maximum of 52 volts.

Will the Bafang BBS02 750W Motor Kit work with my bike?

These kits will only work on bikes with 68mm & 73mm bottom brackets, which is most bikes with the exception of fat bikes and beach cruisers. Please confirm the size of your bike’s bottom bracket before purchasing. Please visit our FAQ Page for information on how to measure your bike's bottom bracket.

If you still have questions after confirming your bike's bottom bracket size, about whether your bike is compatible with the kit, please send us an email with the year, make and model of your bike to info@bafangusadirect.com.

Installation

Watch our step-by-step Installation Video here.

The Bafang motor conversion kit installation is a DIY project that requires no specialty expertise – simply install the parts, plug in the connectors and zip-tie the cables! The trickiest part of the install process is removing your bike’s existing parts, such as your bike's bottom bracket. If you are not interested in performing the install yourself, simply stop by your local bike shop, and they should easily be able to install the BBS02 kit for you.

All the tools that you will need for the install are typically found in most bike tool kits. The only tools that you will need for the install are:

1. A 15mm wrench or pedal wrench to remove your bike's pedals.

2. The appropriate bottom bracket tool to remove your specific bike's bottom bracket

3. Allen wrench(es)/screwdriver to remove your brake levers, rear derailleur, and chainring.
4. A chain tool to remove your bike's chain.

5. A standard spanner wrench to tighten the lockrings.

6. Allen wrench(es) and a Phillip's head screwdriver to tighten the crank arms, sprocket, display, throttle and brake levers.

No specialty tools are necessary! Please note that this kit does not include any tools.

Please refer to our Installation Page for our video with step-by-step installation instructions & Bafang LCD Display manual downloads.

Customer Care Note: We always recommend storing ebikes indoors or under cover as electronic components are susceptible to water damage. All of the kit parts are water resistant, but components such as the display are not waterproof.

5 of 5 BBS02(B)/SWB two wheel recumbent September 18, 2020
Reviewer: Kent from Norfolk, VA
I had the 48V 750W motor kit installed by a recumbent bike shop. I went with the 48V 17.5 Ah battery, The motor is whisper quiet. My bike with the motor and battery now weighs 52 pounds. I'm 64 and weigh 245 lbs. I've only ridden the bike for 34 miles so far with an average speed of 18 mph and a max speed of 28 mph. The DCP-18 display is set up for 9 PAS levels. PAS level four was all I needed while maintaining a cadence of 70-90 rpm. The battery shows 48.4 volts which is 50% after 34 miles. The roadies looked amazed as I passed them. After the ride, riders that I passed stopped by in the parking lot amazed at the speed of my bike not realizing that it was an e-bike. I've ridden with the motor turned off and feel no drag from the motor. I highly recommend Bafang  motors. Truly a quality product. Can't wait for it to stop raining.

4 of 5 A good kit with minor caveats September 15, 2020
Reviewer: MTB from Colchester, VT United States
I installed the kit on a 2003 GF Marlin. The installation went fairly smoothly.

The pros: Amazing power. After a few shake down runs, and a fork rebuild, I had the bike up to ~35MPH while pedaling. On max power level under throttle only the bike tops out at 25MPH on flats.
The brake levers cut the motor power instantly which is great.
The basic display is easy to read and adjust while riding.

The motor keeps assisting for too long after pedaling stops. This can be "fixed" by tapping one of the brake levers to engage the cut out.

Lastly, I had to use the left crank that came on the bike and the right crank that came with the kit due to sterics on the left side. Not a huge issue, but if you care about aesthetics it will bother you.

All-in-all I am happy with the kit, and will likely purchase another one for myself in the near future. I do hope that the power delivery issues can be sorted out via reprogramming.

5 of 5 First assembly impressions September 12, 2020
Reviewer: Andrew Pergiel from Beaverton, OR United States
First I noticed there were no printed instructions, then I dry-fitted everything on the dining room table.
2 puzzling issues came up:
1)  I first tried the allen hex screws that were contained in the motor bracket bag to secure the plate to the motor,  They were too short.  Then after a hour I came across the  longer bolt with washers/spacer.  This worked much better,  I used four washers on each of the longer bolts.  The motor still is not tight to frame,  due to cable race on bottom of crank bracket.   I do not know if that will be a issue.
2) The shift sensor was not a intuitive concept for me.  Searching utube , I learned its purpose and how to fit.
All in all I am happy with the purchase....evevn though I haven't ran it yet. :)

5 of 5 Simple conversion makes a fun ride September 10, 2020
Reviewer: Robert M. from Colorado Springs, CO United States
Been thinking about converting my old Trek 850 to an Ebike for some time, and finally decided to do it. The complete kit I ordered from Bafang was shipped promptly, packed well, and was an easy install (once I located all the necessary tools). It's great to ride the old Antelope again and especially hills that my old knees couldn't handle anymore. All the parts seem to be made well and I'm looking forward to many great rides to come.
